The BMW 5 Series F10 was offered with several lighting configurations, so matching only the model name and year is not enough. A reliable upgrade starts by identifying the exact vehicle version and the equipment fitted at the factory.
Identify the car correctly
- Confirm the F10 saloon chassis rather than the F11 Touring or F18 long-wheelbase model.
- Check the production date, not only the registration year.
- Determine whether the car is pre-LCI or LCI/facelift.
- Record whether the original lamps are halogen, xenon, adaptive xenon or LED.
- Confirm LHD/RHD and the country where the car will be driven.
Pre-LCI and LCI differences
BMW introduced the F10 facelift during the model cycle. Lamp shape can appear similar while internal electronics, modules, connectors and functions differ. Product year ranges must therefore be checked against the vehicle build date and original lamp part number.
Modules, coding and dashboard errors
Some replacement housings reuse original modules, while others include dedicated drivers or adapters. Depending on the upgrade, coding may be needed to remove bulb warnings, enable functions or communicate correctly with the vehicle. Never assume “plug and play” unless the exact listing says so for the vehicle configuration.
Adaptive and automatic functions
If the original car has adaptive lighting, automatic levelling or headlight washers, confirm whether these functions are retained. A lamp that illuminates correctly may still be incompatible with factory adaptive features.
Before placing the order
Send the VIN or build date, photographs of the existing headlights and connectors, the original lighting type and destination country whenever compatibility is uncertain. Browse the dedicated BMW headlights collection or explore all BMW tuning parts.
